A study conducted by Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, has found that one third of international students who have been granted permanent residency since graduating from an Australian University do not have adequate English language skills to handle a professional job in Australia
The study will likely result in a push for the Australian Government to lift the minimum English standard for permanent residency to the same needed to go to university. Australian Universities and TAFEs, not currently independently testing the English levels of students before they start study may be encouraged to do so.
